1859 GOODMAN-LEGRAND HOME AND MUSEUM

A delight for antique lovers and historians, this Tyler landmark brings the past to life with original furnishings, photographs and memorabilia dating from the mid-1800's. FREE Admission!


BALLET TYLER

Ballet Tyler is made up of 20 local dancers from East Texas aging from 11 to 20. The purpose of the Ballet Tyler is to provide opportunities for both dancers and East Texas audiences to experience the fine art of dance at the highest possible quality. This is accomplished through classroom instruction, special workshops, and reasonably-priced performances. Ballet Tyler helps provide scholarship assistance to deserving dancers for advanced studies.


THE BONNER-WHITAKER MCCLENDON HOUSE

One of the finest examples of Eastlake Bracketed Victorian Architecture remaining in East Texas. Guided tours depict Tyler's political and cultural history from post-Civil War. Birthplace of noted Washington D.C. news correspondent, Sarah McClendon. Also available for weddings and parties. Tours available by appointment only. Please call at least 24 hours in advance.


BROOKSHIRE'S WORLD OF WILDLIFE MUSEUM AND COUNTRY STORE


Features over 450 mounted examples of wildlife and a replica 1920's grocery store. Picnic and playground facilities available. FREE Admission.


CALDWELL ZOO

More than 2000 animals from 250 species from Africa, North and South America live in natural habitats at the 85-acre park. The zoo includes a children's petting pen, two aquariums, picnic areas, a café that overlooks an African savannah and gift shops with original African items. The zoo also has seasonal presentations including: a bird show, alligator feedings, giraffe feedings, and elephant demonstrations.


CAMP FANNIN VETERANS MEMORIAL

Self guided tour of the original 15,000 acre camp; including Regimental markers and site locations for various training exercise areas are indentified in the guide. Guides may be obtained at the The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler Hospital Information Desk.


CAMP FORD HISTORIC PARK

Camp Ford was the largest Confederate Prisoner of War Camp west of the Mississippi River during the American Civil War. The site of the camp is now a public park, managed by the Smith County Historical Society. The park features a kiosk with extensive graphics detailing the history of the camp, a walking trail with interpretive signage, a reconstruction of a POW cabin, and picnic facilities. Open daily, dawn to dusk. FREE admission, but donation suggested.


CHEROKEE TRACE DRIVE THRU SAFARI PARK

Nestled in the lush piney woods of East Texas, Cherokee Trace Drive Thru Safari Park is home to hundreds of exotic and endangered animals. These amazing animals thrive in an open habitat similar to their native territory. Enjoy a leisurely, self-guided drive through the hills and open savanna of the 300 acre preserve. From the comfort of your own vehicle, observe, feed and photograph these beautiful creatures.


COTTON BELT DEPOT

The Cotton Belt Depot was built in 1905 and began serving passengers on the Cotton Belt Line in 1907. Visitors are encouraged to take a look around and step back in time, remembering the thousands of travelers who passed through this historic structure in the early and mid-1900’s. In addition to touring this historic building, visitors can also enjoy The Bragg Model Train Collection on permanent display at the depot. FREE admission!


COWAN CENTER

The UT Tyler Cowan Fine & Performing Arts Center presents national and international touring arts and educational programming to enrich the cultural climate for the East Texas Region. Artists presented by the Cowan Center’s many series have included Bill Cosby, Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, David Copperfield, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Lyle Lovett, Momix, Gregory Hines, Tim Conway and Harvey Korman, and Broadway shows Miss Saigon, Annie, Chicago, Cats, and Stomp.


CROSSROADS MUSIC COMPANY

Crossroads Coffeehouse & Music Co. is a LIVE MUSIC VENUE welcoming regional and national touring artists to its stage nearly every weekend. The Crossroads stage, which resembles the front porch of a Mississippi Delta farmhouse, serves up a great diversity of live music most every Saturday night. Just think 100-year-old former hardware store turned music sanctuary, and that pretty much describes Crossroad's vibe.


DEWBERRY PLANTATION

Myrtle-Vale and the surrounding gardens can be rented for weddings, receptions, private parties, tented functions or general meetings. Please call for prices. Food service can be catered. Located immediately west of the mansion, the site can accommodate over 250 people with all of the charm, ambiance and a glimpse into the life and times of Antebellum East Texas. Listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks, the house is the oldest two-story structure in Smith County. Guided tours take visitors back to the era of an 1850's Southern plantation.


THE DISCOVERY SCIENCE PLACE

Hands-on family fun for kids of all ages. View bats in the bat cave, trigger an earthquake into motion under your feet, snake your way through mysterious tunnels and explore the depths of a limestone cavern. Investigate the bones of "Big Ethel", the triceratops dinosaur. The Discovery Science Place offers three exhibit halls where kids of all ages are free to move around and explore. Mike's goal has always been to be the best fishing guide on Lake Palestine and he remains dedicated to it. KIEPERSOL WINERY

Kiepersol Estates Winery is nestled in a beautiful 33-acre vineyard hand-planted in April 1998 and May 1999. Kiepersol's first vinatge was in 2000 and continues to grow in acclaim as well as production. Visitors are invited for wine tastings, tours of the winemaking process, and to relax on the veranda overlooking the expansive vista of the vineyard. Available for private parties.


LAKE TYLER RECREATION AREAS

The City of Tyler operates five boat ramps and several public parks on the shores of these lakes. The Lake Tyler Marina, located on Lake Tyler West in Concession Area #1, charges a small fee to launch; all other ramps are free. Fritz & Opal's Barge, on the water near Old #2, offers fishing access for a fee, and bank access is available at several locations. Two public ramps and a county-maintained boat launch offer access to Lake Tyler East. Primitive camping is allowed in all city parks on a first-come, first-serve basis.


LEGRAND ROSE GARDEN

The LeGrand Gardens is the first ever entirely EarthKind designated botanical gardens in the world. EarthKind is a new environmental landscape management system developed by Dr. Steven George, a landscape horticultural specialist for the Texas Cooperative Extension, an agency of the Texas A&M System. Located on the grounds of the Goodman – LeGrand Home.


LOS PINOS RANCH VINEYARDS

A small winery founded by the Sneed family upon leaving southern California for a new life in Texas. The main aim of the winery is to produce premium wines from Texas grapes, grown in Los Pinos’ vineyards or purchased from other small local growers. At Los Pinos there is an unhurried approach to life, and every guest becomes a member of our “Big Italian Winery Family.” The tasting room has a relaxing old world ambiance where wine lovers can leisurely share some of our tapas and a glass of wine. Every month there is a themed event that includes fine live music, flamboyant and romantic dinners, and dancing.

LouViney Vineyards & Winery LLC was established and bonded as a Texas Winery in 2005 by Susann Briggs, Nancy Briggs, and Susan Jones. It is the first commercial winery in Wood County. The name "LouViney" is our mother's nickname given to her by her grandfather. She came from a large family in West Texas. The family spent many years working side-by-side farming cotton. Today, she inspires us to work hard side-by-side to reach our goals and live our dreams. We now live our dreams farming grapes and making wine. MAYDELLE COUNTRY WINES

Maydelle Country Wines is a small winery in the heart of East Texas, on the tracks of the Texas State Railroad. We have a delightful balance of wines produced from local fruit and Texas grapes as well. We produce, bottle, cellar and sell from our little place in the country. Our award-winning Grapefruit Wine has a unique taste of its own, and our Creole Blush received the People’s Choice Award at Spring Fest 2006. SMITH COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY'S MUSEUM & ARCHIVES

Included in the National Register of Historic Places, the 1904 Carnegie Library building today serves as the Society's museum and archives. Exhibits feature artifacts reflecting Smith County's historic, social and economic culture, including the Indian, Republic of Texas, Civil War and 20th Century eras. Photographs and publications are available for purchase. FREE admission, but donation suggested.


SOUTH TYLER HIKE AND BIKE TRAIL

The 2.5 mile, 10-foot-wide concrete trail connects to the existing Rose Rudman Trail resulting in a five-mile alternate transportation route that connects parks, offices, shopping centers, health clubs, a hotel, schools and neighborhoods.
